Yorkshire Cake Recipe

Ingredients

1.Cream the butter, add sugar gradually, yolks of eggs well beaten, and water.
2.Mix and sift flour, corn-starch, and baking powder, and add to first mixture; then add whites of eggs beaten until stiff.
3.After putting in pan, cover with almonds and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
4.Bake forty minutes in a moderate oven.

Instructions

1.Mix the butter and flour well together with the rice and sugar, add the baking powder, and just sufficient milk to moisten; mix well together.
2.Spread on two buttered plates, and bake ten minutes.
3.When done, spread jam over one, place the other on the top, and sprinkle with sugar.
4.A layer cake is made in this way, with about three layers of cake, and jam or jelly in between, and icing sprinkled with halved walnuts on the top.
